Safety first: If there’s a burning smell, visible arcing, or someone has had an electric shock, isolate power at the consumer unit and call us.
If your home keeps losing power on a single circuit (while neighbours are fine), you’re likely dealing with a local wiring fault, an overloaded circuit, or a failing protective device in the consumer unit. Repeated resets without diagnosis can stress the wiring and appliances.
Visible arcing, wisps of smoke, or brown/black discolouration point to loose terminations, overheated conductors or a failing accessory. This is a fire risk and needs isolating immediately.
Nicked, crushed or perished insulation exposes live parts that can shock or arc. DIY alterations, rodent damage or age-related degradation are common culprits. Keep clear and call an electrician.
Moisture in downlights, junction boxes, outdoor fittings or consumer units can trip RCDs and cause corrosion. Until tested and dried correctly, the installation should be treated as potentially dangerous.
A hot, chemical or “fishy” odour can mean overheating at busbars, breakers or terminals. Power should be isolated and the board inspected; simply resetting breakers won’t resolve the root cause.
Your consumer unit should be quiet. Buzzing suggests loose connections, overloaded circuits, or device fatigue. Left alone, this can escalate to heat damage.
Fixtures that are too hot to touch may have incorrect lamp wattage, poor ventilation or loose connections. Prolonged overheating degrades insulation and conductors.
Occasional flicker happens as lamps age; frequent flicker/dimming can be a loose neutral, high resistance joint or circuit overload needing investigation.
An earth leakage fault, water ingress or a faulty appliance can hold an RCD down. We separate circuits, test insulation and identify the exact cause rather than guessing.
An electrical emergency can range from a simple power outage to something more severe, like an outlet that emits a burning odor or wires that are burning.
Our average dispatch time varies from 20-60 minutes.
Our call out fees start at £50
If there is anyone receiving an electrical shock don’t touch them. You should turn the power off from the fuseboard.
Most electrical fires are caused by a faulty electrical outlet and old appliances.
A kink in a piece of electrical wiring could cause an electrical fire as it resistance within the wire, which creates heat.
